This post was sponsored by Bravo Pet Food. We did receive free food for helping share our thoughts about why we believe Bravo is a quality pet food, but the opinions are entirely our own. A girl and her Poms only shares information we think is relevant for our readers. Bravo Pet Food is not responsible for the content of this blog post.
The days are getting shorter and the weather is getting colder. It’s the perfect time of year for a warm homemade meal. Seeing that I work 60 or more hours a week most weeks and can barely make myself a decent meal I rely on awesome pet food companies like Bravo to make food for the Poms I would prepare myself.
I have fed Bravo for many years- probably close to a decade. Bravo Balance is a staple in their raw food diet. I love Bravo so much I was excited to have the opportunity to try their new freeze dried diet, Bravo Homestyle Complete!
What is freeze dried pet food, you ask? Remember Astronaut Ice Cream? Same process! Basically the freeze drying process makes the water inside of food so cold it turns back into gas, preserving the nutrients in the food. Freeze dried food is shelf stable and it contains the same nutrients as the raw form!
While most of the Poms diet is comprised of frozen raw food, I always have freeze dried food on hand. Why? It’s shelf stable, so if we travel or lose power we don’t have to worry about it thawing or having to keep it cold. Sometimes I forget to pick up a new bag of raw food so having freeze dried food on hand is always helpful!
The important thing- the ingredients! Here’s the ingredient listing for the food the Poms tried, Bravo Homestyle Complete Pork: Pork, sweet potatoes, pork liver, chickpeas, pork hearts, pork kidneys, green beans, dried eggs, cranberries, tricalcium phosphate, choline chloride, dried kelp, turmeric, salt, rosemary, sage, dill, fennel, mixed tocopherols (preservative), zinc proteinate, iron proteinate, copper proteinate, manganese proteinate, sodium selenite, calcium iodate, vitamin E supplement, thiamine mononitrate, niacin supplement, calcium pantothenate, biotin, vitamin A supplement, riboflavin supplement, vitamin B12 supplement, pyridoxine hydrochloride, vitamin D3 supplement, folic acid, rosemary extract.
That ingredient list looks like what I would throw in the crock pot for Kevin and I! Bravo posts the Country of Origin information for all of their ingredients so you can see exactly where they’re sourcing everything. I love that they’re so transparent!
I was really impressed with the amount of pork chunks in the food. There are other companies that make freeze dried food that don’t have recognizable pieces of meat in them. It’s nice to be able to SEE it! The pieces are soft enough in the bag I can even break them up and use them as training treats.
The Poms AND our cats immediately went bonkers when I opened the bag of Homestyle Complete! I was surrounded!
So now you have a bag of Bravo Homestyle complete. What do you do with it? Freeze dried food may look intimidating, but all you have to do is add water! One cup of water for every cup of freeze dried mix. Let it sit for 15-20 minutes and POOF! You have fresh dog food!
Because the Poms and cats want to eat it as soon as we open the bag we have make the food and leave it to rehydrate in our bathroom with the door closed!
Once rehydrated it has a nice broth to it which is great for dogs who need extra moisture or dogs like Parker who don’t have great teeth! The colors in the veggies come back and
you can see the awesome ingredients even better. In this shot you can see the sweet potatoes, cranberries and green beans clear as day! The Poms LOVE eating the veggies first!
We give Bravo Homestyle complete 4 paws up! It has superior ingredients, incredible palatability and provides great nutrition!
